3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Design. The round saw blades shall be new and of the manufacturer’s commercial design in effect on the date of the solicitation. The round saw blades shall meet the requirements specified herein and conform to current industrial practice. The round saw blades shall have a helical groove upset 360 degrees around and along the entire cutting length similar to figure 1, except for that portion of type B blades to be welded which shall be blank.
3.1.1 Illustration. The illustration shown is for convenience of identification and is not intended to preclude the purchase of blades that ape otherwise in accordance with this description.
3.2 Materials. Materials used in the manufacture of round saw blades shall be of a quality necessary to produce a product that conforms to the requirements specified herein.
3.3 Measurement system. All dimensions in this description are given in US units. These measurements may be converted to S1 units through the use of conversion factors and methods specified in FED-STD-376.
3.4 Regulatory requirements. In accordance with section 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations, the Government’s policy is to acquire items composed of the highest percentage of recovered materials practicable, consistent with maintaining a satisfactory level of competition without adversely affecting performance requirements or exposing suppliers’ employees to undue hazards from the recovered materials.
3.5 Dimensions. Round saw blades shall conform to all dimensional requirements specified herein.
3.6 Tolerances. The allowable tolerance for turns per inch shall be ±1/2 turn and the allowable diametral tolerance shall be ±0.002 inches.
3.7 Type A. Type A round saw blades shall be furnished in continuous coils 100 -0, +1/2 feet in length without welds.
3.8 Type B. Type B round saw blades shall be furnished with not more than one weld each. The length required shall be as specified (see 6.2).
3.9 Type C. Type C round saw blades shall be furnished with an eyelet permanently attached to each end to facilitate mounting of the blade to a coping saw or hacksaw frame. The length of type C blades shall be measured from the center of the eyelets and shall be as specified (see 6.2).
